Alain D. Chung
Chairman and Chief Investment Officer
Alain began his professional career in 1983 and is a CFA charterholder since 2000. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from HEC Montreal, where he graduated with honors. Alain co-founded Claret Asset Management and has been the Executive Vice-President and Portfolio Manager until recently when he was named Chairman and Chief Investment Officer. Before joining Claret, Alain worked 16 years as an investment advisor and as a Vice-President at Wood Gundy. Alain speaks English, French, Cantonese, Mandarin and Vietnamese.
Chief Executive Officer
Monique began her professional career in investments in 1978 at Wood Gundy Ltd as an investment advisor, having graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree with concentrations in finance and international relations. In 1986, Monique was appointed branch manager at Wood Gundy and also obtained her CFA designation. She held progressively senior roles with CIBC Wood Gundy until becoming head of the firm in 2009. Monique served on several boards within CIBC, for various associations including as President of the Montreal Society of Financial Analysts, as Chairman of the Board of Governors of CFA Institute, the Accounting Standards Oversight Council of Canada and various charitable organizations. She has received awards from the investment management industry and been nominated several times in the “Top 25” financial personalities in Quebec by Finance et Investissement.
William K. Kovalchuk
President, Portfolio Manager
Bill began his professional career in 1986 and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) since 1991. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Concordia University and an MBA from McGill University. Bill was President of the Montreal Society of Financial Analysts in 1996-97 and was the President’s Council Representative for Canada from 2000-2004 for the CFA Institute. Bill co-founded Claret Asset Management in 1996 and has been President and Portfolio Manager ever since.
Vice-President, Portfolio Manager
Jean-Paul began his professional career in 1988 and is a CFA charterholder since 1993. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from McGill University and an MBA from Concordia University. Jean-Paul was President of the Montreal Society of Financial Analysts in 1998-99. Jean-Paul joined Claret in 2000 in the role of Vice-President and Portfolio Manager. Before working at Claret, he worked with a private Swiss bank for over 10 years.
M. Sc., CFA
Vincent began his professional career in 1999 and is a CFA charterholder since 2004. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Masters degree in Economics. Vincent has been an active member of the CFA Montreal society and was elected President in 2010-11. He joined Claret in 2002 and is a Portfolio Manager.
Keith is a CFA charterholder since 2001 and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Concordia University. He began his professional career in 1985, working with a large Canadian financial institution for over 18 years. Keith joined Claret in 2004 and is a Senior Analyst and Portfolio Manager.
Kathleen joined Claret as corporate controller in July of 2016. She brings with her over 10 years of experience in assurance, accounting and business consulting. Prior to joining Claret Kathleen was a Senior Audit Manager at Collins Barrow Montreal, where she developed expertise in various industries and various areas including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO), assurance and taxation. She also played a significant role in training by planning and delivering several technical and practical courses. Kathleen obtained her Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in 2010 and holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.), Accountancy degree from Concordia University.
Strategic Development and Portfolio Manager
Pierre holds a Bachelor of Commerce in finance and accounting from McGill University, a Canadian Investment Manager (CIM) designation and has completed a Certificate in Derivatives Market Strategies. Pierre started his career and joined Claret in 2000. Since joining Claret, Pierre has been involved in back office operations, fund administration, electronic trading, marketing, quantitative research and portfolio management. Pierre is now focusing on Claret’s strategic development initiatives and the management of the Claret Global Multi-Asset Fund, an award-wining managed futures program.
Investment Research Analyst
John holds a Master in Economics and Management of the Catholic Institute of Madagascar, a master's degree in finance and marketing from the Catholic University of Madagascar and ESDES of the Catholic University of Lyon and a Master in Finance from Université de Sherbrooke. John joined the Claret team in 2011 as an investment research analyst. He is a CFA charterholder since 2015 and has completed the examinations of the CGA program.
Associate Portfolio Manager
Maxime holds a Master in Finance from Université de Sherbrooke. He joined the Claret team in 2016 as a junior investment research analyst and acts as associate portfolio manager since 2017. Maxime has completed the CFA Level II exam and is a CFA Level III candidate.
Junior Investment Analyst
Javier holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Metropolitan University in Venezuela and a Master of Science in Management from Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business. Javier joined Claret’s back office team in 2016 and then became Junior Investment Research Analyst in 2018. Javier has completed the CFA Level I and is a CFA Level II candidate.
Junior Investment Analyst - Trader
Dean holds a Bachelor of Commerce in finance and economics from Concordia University’s John Molson School of Business. He joined Claret’s back office team in 2015 and then moved on to a junior investment analyst - trader role in 2018. Dean has completed CFA Level I and is a CFA Level II candidate.
